Canada Square Park at Canary Wharf has transformed from an outdoor sport-watching and picnic area into a fabulous covered ice rink. This year you have plenty of time to get your skates on as the rink is now open and runs right through until 24th February 2024. This year there are themed skating sessions, including a Halloween Spectacular, 80’s, 90’s and Soul Classics nights to get the festive party started. Canary Wharf’s Ice Rink will be open every day between Saturday 21st October 2023 and Saturday 24th February 2024, except Christmas Day. The minimum age to skate is four years old, with skate aids available on a first come first served basis. • Sensational Night at Bernie Dieter’s Club Kabarett – Underbelly Boulevard – Review

I had the extraordinary privilege of attending the press night for the inaugural show at Underbelly Boulevard, and what a night it was! The critically acclaimed and world-renowned “BERNIE DIETER’S CLUB KABARETT” proved to be a mesmerising experience from start to finish securing its place as a must-see performance this season. As we took our seats, it was evident that this was no ordinary cabaret; it was a sensual journey through a realm of debauched wit, graceful sensuality, and captivating inclusivity. The intimate venue is formed by seats circling the central stage, giving a perfect birds eye view of the show. Performers strutted around in flamboyant costumes and ridiculously high sparkly heels whilst cheekily entertaining the audience prior to the show commencing. Bernie Dieter herself, an enigmatic cross between Lady Gaga and Marlene Dietrich opens the show in a sea of red mist, belting out songs with her throaty German-accented voice. Her captivating presence guided the audience through the evening with a riotous mix of risqué humour, sultry songs, and razor-sharp banter. She proclaims that “difference is something to be celebrated,” setting the tone for the diverse cast of non-conforming talent that follows. The band, a group of immensely talented musicians was the perfect backdrop to the performers who deliver a breathtaking array of meticulously choreographed routines that are as visually exquisite as they are jaw-dropping. The pole-dancing routine was fascinating, with legs that seemed impossibly flexible, defying gender norms and pushing the boundaries of physicality. The aerial acrobatics were nothing short of breathtaking, with the duo bringing the audience to the edge of their seats with their daring aerial acrobats completely in synergy. All of the performers showcased a level of skill and dedication that is truly world-class, their passion and commitment to their craft were undeniable, and it was evident that they were living their art, not just performing it. Bernie Dieter’s Club Kabarett is a riotous evening that unapologetically pushes the boundaries of physicality and embraces non-conformity. A combination of danger, sauciness and humour which can startle and provoke. Bernie Dieter herself is a consummate professional who fearlessly commands the stage, making this a genuine and unforgettable experience. If you have the opportunity to attend this limited show, do not miss it. It’s a night that will leave you spellbound, entertained, and wishing for more. • La Clique – Review

Having recently reviewed another Underbelly show, I was under the impression that I knew what awaited us. La Clique, housed this season in a “Spiegeltent” in the heart of Leicester Square provided a mind-blowing spectacle of acts that unfolded before our eyes! Boasting a global tour with nearly two decades of sold-out runs, this show is not just a performance; it’s an experience. The pre-show room, adorned with holly, features a welcoming bar and upon entering the ‘big top’, a Victorian-era ambiance envelopes you, complemented by music reminiscent of “The Greatest Showman”.  We were promptly ushered to our seats by overly efficient ushers. Seats are not allocated so arrive early if you want to sit near the front, they are also not the most comfortable of seats to sit in for over 90 minutes. The show was introduced by the ringmaster who engaged the audience with his wit and charm however his singing between acts fell a bit flat. As the lights dimmed,  a red silk rope descended from the ceiling, and a jean clad, white vested muscular performer David Pereira, effortlessly worked the rope that enthralled the audience with gravity-defying moves that defied the laws of the human body. The acts that follow are a kaleidoscope of talent, from a giant female puppet straight from Montreal’s Cabaret Decandance with plenty of attitude belted out  powerful tunes, followed by the acclaimed hand balancer Aaron Marshall who was full of swagger to the hip hop and an acrobatic hip-hop performer defying gravity with elastic bands. The unexpected star of the night, which had us full of incredulous laughter was Tara Boom, who exploded onto the stage, looking like a mad clown who delivered a crazy performance which involved spreading butter on her body, a popcorn dispenser on her head and partial nudity…It was baffling but very entertaining! After the interval, the stage is set for more acts, showcasing LJ Marles who mesmerised the audience with his elegant tension strap mastery,  Yuliia Pykhtina and her skills with hula hoops and then finishing the show with an element of surprise; full frontal nudity, expertly balanced with humour that keeps the audience engaged and entertained. A word to the wise to those close to the front – you are not safe from the unexpected! In conclusion, the 90 minutes flew by all too quickly. The energy, elegance, comedy, and talent within the big top create a multi-sensory feast that is a must-see over the festive period. La Clique is not just a cabaret/circus type show; it’s an experience that will leave you talking for days Dates: 8th November – 6th January Ticket prices start from £22.50, to book your ticket visit www.lacliquetheshow.com Address: 1 Leicester Square, London, WC2H 7NA Written by Lorna Bryn Photography by Craig Sugden #carabret #LaClique #leicestersquare
