  • Wingstop – Review

Whether you are feeling snackish or ravenous, Wingstop is on a mission to pander to your chicken cravings. Offering a menu of wings, tenders, boneless, a succulent chicken burger and generous sides. You can customise your very own wings, tenders and boneless with a choice of ten bold, distinctive flavours, which include Brazilian Citrus Pepper, Mango Habanero, Garlic Parmesan, Louisiana rub and Lemon Pepper (to name a few). We eagerly went on down to their Cambridge Circus branch, bellies empty and ready to get our hands and faces dirty with some Wingstop flavours. The restaurant’s interior is contemporary and sleek, with two floors of seating. For a comfier, sit-down dining experience, we’d recommend heading upstairs where more seats are to be found. Our hands didn’t stay clean for long as we dug into some sticky, sweet Korean BBQ wings, packed with flavour, along with the Louisiana rub, which turns up the heat for those looking for a kick of spice to tantalise their taste buds. Although it was the wings we were most eager to munch on, the Succulent Big Flavour Burger was a winner, with crunchy slaw, pickles, and house ranch in a toasted brioche bun. Its crispy coating and exceptional seasoning mix brought the burger to life. Sides include seasoned fries, loaded fries, honey mustard slaw and sweet potato fries and if you still have room for more, then finish off your meal with Churros which you can also customise. Choose a delicious crumb for your sweet treat with Oreo or Lotus Biscoff, and sauce from Sweet Milk or Caramel. Sickly sweet? Maybe, but if you have space, why wouldn’t you? Wingstop UK has invested in creating playlists that reflect its brand values and resonate with its target audience. The staff at Cambridge Circus definitely deserve a shout-out, they were friendly, welcoming and very accommodating throughout our meal. • Gaucho opens up in Covent Garden – The launch review

Mounted polo players, Argentinian Tango, delicious menu canapes and a star-studded party heralded the arrival of Gaucho in Covent Garden this month. We were lucky enough to attend and visit the sleek and stylish location just a two minute walk from Covent Garden station. The new restaurant boasts two floors with a showstopper bar area and an open kitchen downstairs with plush velvet seating and intimate lighting inspired by Argentinian dancehalls and bars. As the evening got started we were served canapes of Fried Seabass Ceviche served on arepa bread, Beetroot Ceviche with Mango, chili and coriander, and Scallops with Nduja butter, agua chile verde and lemon crumb. Some of the signature dishes were on show and of course the famous steak. We tried the Steak Tartare, Beef Empanadas and Fried Chicken, all off-menu but delicious tasters to tempt us into coming back at a later date. During the evening there were two stunning dance performances with professionals showcasing the ArgentinianTango amongst the crowd downstairs, to give a taste of the experiences available at the new restaurant. A live DJ was spinning big tunes and created a club vibe with most of the room up dancing. On Friday and Saturday nights from 10.30pm the party will get started until the wee small hours. Gaucho Covent Garden will open daily with brand new breakfast dishes from Eggs Benedict to Porridge as well as a classic Full English, a three-course set lunch for  £30 and pre-theatre dining, alongside Gaucho’s signature selection of standout 100% carbon neutral steaks, sourced from Argentina. Trays of signature cocktails kept coming – and with the extensive collection of Argentinian wines available, you really are spoilt for choice to accompany your meal. The cocktail menu includes signature serves, and mocktails with a real focus on sustainable drinks which are either carbon-negative or climate-positive choices. We look forward to returning very soon to try the full menu! • The new summer dishes at Wagamama – Review

Summer has landed and so has the summer dishes at Wagamama! As we prepare for festivals, happier moods and warmer days, we explored some of the new summer dishes Wagamama is delighted to offer. With a fresh take on summer, heliophiles can expect new fresh and healthy dishes, which include the beaming Koyo bowls, lively nori rolls, and the legendary vegan ‘chicken’ Kare Lomen. They are also serving up new bevys like the Thai chilli margaritas, pandan passion fruit coladas, and sake spritz. First up, the Nori Rolls bring to life the freshness of the prawns and the sauce adds a zing that invites summer to zest up this starter. The vegetables carried through with a crisp crunch quenching the craving for something light but satisfying, leaving you desiring what adventure the Koyo Bowls will carry us on. Before we got our palates delightfully coloured with the Koyo Bowls, we tucked into the Vegan ‘Chicken’ Kare Lomen. A return of the mack, we’ve always been delighted with this feisty coconut broth dancing in symphony with the Lo mein noodles and ending off with a meaty sweet and sticky bite of the ‘chicken’ leaving us filled and comforted. Be careful this dish may cause you to feel so blissful that you’re ready to read a book in the park while taking a siesta before your fiesta. This really embodies the notion of ‘itsuraku’ where Wagamama creates escapism and pleasure. An encore we’d love to see have a residency on the menu as this always excites our mind, body and soul. Introducing the influencer, the Koyo bowls are nourishing and perfect for helping you gain that summer body! Garden-fresh, crisp and crunchy these bowls will hit the salad hankerings while the colours illuminate the insta stories. The Koyo bowls come in three options, Chicken and caramelised onion, salmon and aubergine and caramelised onion. Wagamama’s menu has truly traversed the idea ‘Kaizen’ and we’ve seen some good changes over the years. We look forward to the future with Wagamama as it remains a go-to restaurant and has something for everyone. Your next foodie escapade is around the corner because Wagamama is expanding, and we are thrilled. Written by Javed Sajad Website: www.wagamama.com #healthy #summerdishes #wagamama

  • Haute Dolci – Review

Haute Dolci is undoubtedly a dessert haven offering up incredible sweet desserts to attract your eyes and excite your tastebuds! Dishes include handcrafted gelato, waffles, french toast, pancakes and one of their most talked about desserts the San Sebastian Cheesecake. Haute Dolci also offers savoury dishes which include poached eggs, scrambled eggs, avo on sourdough, spicy hash and more, but word on the street definitely confirms that it’s the desserts that keep the people coming! Haute Dolci is also all about the decor! The Ilford branch is elegant with a neutral decor, plush seating and gorgeous flower arrangements dotted around. You can’t help but feel impressed, they have gone to a lot of effort into getting the restaurant looking that elegant and chic. First up I opted for the Spicy Hash, one of their popular savoury dishes, fried egg with a crispy hash brown, served on toasted brioche, topped with a fresh mixed leaf salad and spicy hollandaise sauce. Perfectly cooked, flavoursome and very moreish, I can see why it’s one of their signature dishes! I was of course most looking forward to trying their desserts… I ordered the Pistachio Stack, which was presented beautifully! The pancakes were fluffy, yet light and thin, the ice cream was creamy and smooth and the lashings of pistachio sauce and crushed pistachio added the sweetness I craved! Very pleased with my choice of dessert, yet I couldn’t help but eye up my dining partner’s choice of The San Sebastian Cheesecake. Photos and videos of The San Sebastian cheesecake feature a lot on Instagram, so it would have been crazy not to try it as well. Ohhhh and it didn’t disappoint! It was light and incredibly creamy, an interesting twist on the original. The top was nicely caramelised and the additional chocolate sauce was very much welcomed. It certainly was a melt-in-your-mouth dessert! You come to Haute Dolci to indulge, so come with your tummies empty, the desserts really are impressive and if you have space for more than one, tuck into two dessert offerings, you won’t be disappointed! London branches include The O2, Wembley, Ilford and Harrow. Website: https://hautedolci.co.uk Written by Nyla S. #dessert #desserts #HauteDolci #ilford

  • Stars restaurant – Review

Situated directly across the road from Tottenham Court Road station you will find yourself in the West End’s newest theatre, Soho Place which opened in 2020. Inside you will find the restaurant – Stars, situated on the ground floor. My guest and I arrived for our reservation in the evening and were a bit disconcerted at seeing the crowds outside the restaurant entrance, however, we soon discovered that both the theatre and the restaurant share the same entrance so breathed a sigh of relief at not having to queue. The restaurant was busy initially but emptied within 10 minutes of sitting down and was quiet for the rest of the evening which was surprising considering how enjoyable our evening was.  The restaurant’s décor features a colourful wraparound mural of stars and galaxies that twinkles, and as a bit of a stargazer, my eyes kept straying at the beauty. The menu had two options: pre-theatre 3 course menu or the a la carte, along with an extensive wine list. For wine we decided on the Adega de Moncao; a refreshingly zesty Alvarinho which was perfect for a hot summer’s evening.  For starters, I chose the English burrata & tomatoes, marinated with miso and smoked oil which was divine!  My guest went for the Korean Spiced Wings with Kimchi & Sesame dust which was full of flavour and had just the right amount of spice. Sourdough bread was suggested by the waiter for dipping, which was a good recommendation. For the mains, the Hereford 28-day Aged Rib Eye & Fries are amazing, seasoned and cooked to perfection. It was so good that I didn’t bother using the accompanying Bearnaise sauce, I also upgraded to the Truffle & Parmesan Fries which were just wow! My guest decided on the Roast Duck Leg with lentil puree and braised radicchio, the duck was moist, slightly pink and very tender, another successful main. We finished on a slice of Basque Cheesecake and Chocolate mousse with raspberry & caramel; however, we couldn’t do them the justice they deserved due to how full we both were. Service throughout our meal was incredible, the staff was professional, and attentive and it was refreshing seeing faces full of smiles. In summary, delicious food and exceptional service; well recommended and worth a visit. • Cavo: A Culinary Journey through the Mediterranean – Review

Mediterranean restaurant Cavo is a hidden gem situated in the Now building, right near Tottenham Court Road station, taking diners on a delightful journey through the flavors of the Mediterranean. From the moment you step inside, the inviting decor and the big open rooftop terrace creates an atmosphere that sets the stage for a memorable dining experience. The rooftop terrace is perfect for an alfresco dining experience, view views of the bustling streets of Bloomsbury and Covent Garden. Perfect for a romantic evening or a gathering with friends during the day. The menu at Cavo is a celebration of Mediterranean cuisine, showcasing an impressive range of seafood, meat, vegetarian and vegan dishes. Each plate is prepared using fresh, high-quality ingredients, incorporating traditional flavours and innovative twists. To start we shared the olives and Padron peppers, which were beautifully charred and glistening with olive oil, with a generous sprinkling of flakes of sea salt. Two very enjoyable appetizers to whet our appetite. Moving on to the main course, we indulged in the Orecchiette Pasta which came with roasted tomatoes, olive, capers and basil, the dish was a true celebration of Mediterranean simplicity and sophistication. The Vegetable platter was like no other veggie dish I’ve tried before. The platter was elegantly arranged, showcasing a variety of seasonal vegetables, From aubergine to marinated artichoke hearts to charred asparagus, each vegetable adding its own unique texture and flavor to the ensemble. The sweetness from the vegetables creates a beautiful sweet caramelised juice and the rose petals added beauty and a little flavoured texture. A healthy, flavoursome dish that left us fully satisfied but yet wanting more! For dessert, we had the Sicilian Almond Crumble, another standout dish! Creamy, sweet and mouth-watering, it left us wanting more! The food is incredible and the service at Cavo was attentive and friendly, with staff members who spoke about the menu with such enthusiasm and passion. Cavo is a culinary oasis in the bustling city of London, offering a journey through the vibrant flavours of the Mediterranean. It is definitely one of my top three restaurants in Central London, and I didn’t even taste the incredible seafood… So that says a lot! Cavo is an absolute must-visit restaurant that will leave you with lasting memories of exceptional flavours and warm hospitality. • Old Queen Street Cafe – Weekend Brunch Review

We recently had the opportunity to visit Old Queen Street Cafe to try out their weekend brunch menu, located a few minutes from Westminster Abbey. Inside the Old Queen Street Cafe is charming and cosy, with a touch of vintage elegance. It has a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes it an ideal spot to enjoy a leisurely meal. I opted for the Veggie Breakfast, which was a delightful surprise! The poached eggs were cooked to perfection, accompanying the poached eggs were grilled tomatoes, sautéed mushrooms, and grilled halloumi cheese. The mushrooms added a savoury earthiness and the tomatoes provided a burst of freshness. Overall, the veggie breakfast was a delicious and satisfying choice. My guest opted for Fish and Chips, a classic British dish that I couldn’t resist trying. The fish was tender and flaky, enveloped in a light and crispy batter that had a beautiful golden colour. The chips were wonderfully crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Accompanying the dish was a side of mushy peas, which added a lovely contrast of texture and a hint of sweetness. The portion size was generous, ensuring that we left the cafe feeling satisfied. To finish off we shared the Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream, a very rich, creamy and smooth dessert, the perfect dish to end our meal. Overall, our experience at the Old Queen Cafe was delightful, the food was delicious and the cafe’s welcoming ambience and attentive service added to the overall enjoyment of the meal. If you’re in London and looking for a charming cafe with great British dishes to choose from, check out the Old Queen Street Cafe, it’s worth a visit. • Bamboo Mat – Review

Over the last few years, the east village in Stratford has been blowing up, gaining a loyal following of locals and workers, resulting in an elevated food and drink offering. Bamboo Mat is one of these such restaurants, presenting what they coin as a ‘fresh perspective on Nikkei cuisine’. If you don’t know, Nikkei is a creative mix of Peruvian and Japanese, a recent food trend that has been taking London by storm. On a Tuesday night the restaurant had a nice after-work buzz, accompanied by the dim lights and intriguing décor. With friendly staff and well-placed tables, it felt easygoing with a hint of bouginess. We chose to go with the chef’s suggestions, a feast based on their plant-based and vegi options; Padron Peppers with mango miso, Grilled Sweet Potato served with yoghurt, pickled shallots, feta cheese, pomegranate and coriander, Veggie Ceviche with passion fruit & mango tiger’s milk, sweet potato, avocado, broccoli, red onion and chancha corn, and Mango Maki with avocado, cucumber, romano pepper, mango puree and sriracha sauce. I’m a big mango fan so this was heaven for me, lots of strong flavours with a sweet and tangy twist. My personal favourite was unexpectedly the baby spinach salad, finished with wasabi dressing and sesame seeds, the dressing was completely moorish, spicing up the taste of the humble spinach. The grilled broccoli with sweet soy sauce, sesame seeds and crispy onions was also a surprising front runner, charred to perfection with beautiful Unami flavours. We finished with the crème brulé. Of course, I took the opportunity to sample the equally exotic cocktails, opting for the passion fruit margarita; tequila, triple sec, lime, passion fruit with a salt rim. I have to say I do always slightly regret being enticed into a fruity margarita rather than the original, but this was decent and for £10 it was good value. A great shout if you are looking for somewhere interesting in Stratford, Bamboo-Mat combines creative food with friendly service. Their vegetarian offering has expanded significantly making it suitable for mixed groups of meat and non-meat eaters.
