Late Night Dining at W London, Soho - Review

The W Hotel group, known for its glamourous locations and stunning interiors is also home to one of the West End’s sexiest late-night eateries.

Perfectly situated for Soho socialisers and night owls with the munchies, the first-floor restaurant serves a mouth-watering short-order menu late into the night, taking orders until 1:00 AM from Sunday to Thursday and all day and night from Friday to Saturday.

The restaurant is uber cool with a disco luxe ambience and huge bar area, the artfully arranged glitter balls dangling like art installations from the super high ceilings treat customers to a funky maximalist vibe, with lots of cozy booth seating and intimate areas to enjoy your meal or drinks.

We started our evening with some signature cocktails in one of the window seat booths. I went for the barman’s recommendation ‘Inferno’ – a richly scented concoction served in a chunky glass like a vase, decorated with one mega ice cube ball. This drink has the wow factor and plenty of punch! Four Roses Bourbon, Discarded Banana Rum, Banane Du Bresil, Pineapple Anise Bitters and Old Fashioned Syrup – the mix works surprisingly well, good enough to go for a second round! Overall, the cocktail list is luxurious, and one could seriously indulge, with all the old favourites plus some innovative new preparations.

For dinner we tried the Signature Charcoal Burger, a hearty patty loaded with cheese, and bacon, served with sweet potato fries. The burger is an absolute hero, rich and flavoursome, it’s right up there with one of my best burgers ever; very satisfying and grown up.

Sweet potato fries can sometimes come up a little soggy, but not these, incredibly crispy and fresh. The club sandwich came stacked high and fully loaded, with lots of chicken, bacon, crunchy salad and slaw, plus a good portion of fries, diners at this establishment are not going to bed hungry. The kitchen runs a tight ship and food is of a discernibly high standard. Other notable dishes on the menu are the Crispy Chicken Tenders with a rich buttermilk dip, great as a light bite or starter.

Following our savoury course, and not to cut the night short we opted to try The Sticky Toffee Pudding, which came oozing with honeycomb and served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a mega-watt old-school classic. For something a little lighter and fresher, try the Mochi ball trio, chocolate, raspberry & lychee and mango & passion fruit, a great way to finish off a late-night feast.

Throughout the evening the staff were charming and attentive without being overbearing. The vibe is very chilled and has an air of luxury, it's definitely worth staying up late for.
