Alley Cats opens up a new branch on Portobello Road

New York style pizza lands on Portobello Road as cult pizzeria Alley Cats opens its latest London outpost, bringing its signature pies, neighbourhood energy and a brand-new walk-up slice hatch to one of the capital’s most iconic streets.

Opening at 233 Portobello Road, the new two floor space introduces a fresh way to experience Alley Cats. At street level, passersby can grab a slice straight from the new “slice hatch”, designed for quick pit stops and market wanderers on the move. Individual slices are cut from impressive 18-inch pizzas, served hot and ready to eat, offering a proper New York style grab and go experience right in the heart of Notting Hill.

Upstairs, the mood shifts to a more relaxed neighbourhood dining room with full table service. Guests can settle in for the full Alley Cats experience with 14-inch whole pies, while a hidden outdoor terrace tucked away from the bustle of Portobello Road provides additional seating for warmer days.

The Portobello opening also introduces several new dishes created by Sicilian born Head Chef Francesco Macrì, expanding the menu while staying firmly rooted in New York pizzeria culture. Alongside the classic pies and slices, guests will find Fat Cat Squares, Alley Cats’ take on Sicilian square pizza, as well as a selection of hearty subs including a Philly cheesesteak. Comforting sides round things out, from deep fried carbonara bites to a rich aubergine parmigiana.

Design plays a key role in shaping the atmosphere. The upstairs dining room overlooks the lively stalls of Portobello Road, with exposed brickwork and a warm, stripped back feel that reflects Alley Cats’ laid-back neighbourhood character. Downstairs, the ground floor takes a more playful approach, drawing inspiration from Portobello’s creative spirit with Italian flooring, a bespoke tie dye awning and bold joinery influenced by legendary architect Ettore Sottsass.

Blending Italian roots with New York pizza culture and a distinctly London setting, Alley Cats’ Portobello Road opening marks an exciting new chapter for the growing pizzeria.
