New Designers Is Back

If you want to see fresh new voices and the coolest items before they burst onto the scene, mark your calendar to swing along to New Designers, from June 29th – July 2nd and July 6th-9th at Islington’s Business Design Centre.

There is an abundance of ambitious ideas and innovative approaches promised, and after two years away, the designers are itching to show the world what they’ve got to offer. Especially considering the themes that are already coming through from mental health to biophilic design, community to identity. The show, as always, is multi-discipline so expect to see plenty of art, ceramics, fashion, furniture design, graphic design, jewellery design, product design, textiles and woodwork.

Look out for ‘Pop Futurism’ by Harry Chadwick, a series of brightly coloured, Pop Art inspired, distorted tools of the trade. Per Cheryl Carroll, Events Director of New Designers, it’s just one of the stand out portfolios: “This year we endeavour to deliver the best programme for the graduates and their universities. We want to support them and help them re-establish valuable connections with the industry after a two-year hiatus. We look forward to championing the future of design.”

The first week (June 29th – July 2nd) focuses on textiles, fashion, costume design, jewellery, precious metalwork, ceramics, glass and contemporary design crafts, and the second week (July 6th – 9th) focuses on furniture, product & industrial & spatial design, graphic design, illustration, motion & digital arts and animation.

New Designers 2022 will be the 37th time the show is put on and boasts +3,000 young designers and graduates. Expect greatness; the show has previously launched the careers of Bethan Gray, Jay Osgerby and Lee Broom.
