Wahaca launches the Good lunch - a new lunchtime special inspired by the all-in-one trays found in school dining halls

As the conversation around the future of school food heats up this month, Mexican-inspired restaurant Wahaca is taking the classic school lunch tray as inspiration to create a new special launching in support of Chefs In Schools. Created to celebrate the charity’s work transforming food culture in schools and helping every child have access to delicious and nutritious meals.

Available at Wahaca restaurants nationwide from 16th September until 14th October, The Good Lunch brings everything together on one tray. Priced at £19.95 and served between 12pm and 4pm, the limited-edition tray comes loaded with guacamole or butter bean & confit garlic dip and tortilla chips, two tacos with a choice of fillings, and Wahaca’s new chipotle meatballs. And, in true school-dinner fashion, a slice of rich chocolate mole cake with pouring cream arrives alongside the savoury dishes, no waiting for the bell and an absoulte treat for kids and adults!

The launch comes at a significant moment for school food in England. The Government recently published the first update to School Food Standards in more than ten years, bringing school catering across England in line with the latest nutritional guidance. Meanwhile, free school meals are being extended this month to all households receiving Universal Credit, making an additional 500,000 children eligible and marking the biggest expansion of the scheme in years. And there’s a little something extra on the side: for every Good Lunch sold, Wahaca will donate 50p to Chefs in Schools. The charity works directly with schools and their kitchen teams to transform food culture, improve school meals and help children discover just how exciting good food can be.
