Dallas Burger Joint arrives in London

Lisbonites have been quietly obsessed with Dallas for years. Now, Londoners can finally get a taste of the action, the laidback Portuguese burger has made its UK debut in Shoreditch this month. Landing in one of East London’s most characterful neighbourhoods, Dallas’ new 48-cover spot brings its no-nonsense burgers, nostalgic interiors and distinctly unpolished charm to London, without trying too hard to fit in. That’s because Dallas has a thing for places with a bit of history. Rather than hunting down shiny, purpose-built spaces, the cult burger joint seeks out unassuming, faded and often overlooked neighbourhood spots, breathing new life into them while keeping their original character firmly intact.

In Shoreditch, that means giving a former pub a fresh chapter rather than wiping the slate clean. The original façade and architectural details have been preserved, while inside, mustard and orange accents meet rich cherry-toned wood panelling. Walls are hung with work by photographers including William Eggleston, Devlin Claro and Martin Parr, while mosaic floors, Formica tables, vintage lighting and Portuguese tiles create the feel of a slightly time-warped mid-century café.

And the same thinking carries through to the menu. Dallas isn’t interested in burger theatrics: no skyscraper stacks and no burger that requires an engineering degree to eat. Instead, the menu is deliberately streamlined, sticking to the essentials and doing them very, very well. At the heart of it all are 165g beef patties made from a secret blend of three premium cuts, supplied by Aubrey Allen, a Royal Warrant holder that sources from the top 1% of British beef. And, of course, there’s no need to miss out if you don’t eat meat: any burger on the menu can be made with a vegan patty.

Dallas Shoreditch is the beginning of a new chapter for the Lisbon favourite. Same no-nonsense burgers, same laidback attitude, new postcode.

The Capturist were invited to experience the Disco 3000 at Circe's Rooftop in Waterloo. We nervously climbed the unassuming stairs opposite Waterloo Station and entered party central on a gorgeous sunny afternoon and picked up immediately on the celebration vibes. The place was a standing room only with birthdays and groups of all ages all ready for the show. This is a drag brunch from the heavens, and not for the faint-hearted!

The action goes on all around you; there are plenty of opportunities to interact with the performers and go crazy. We got sequins, eyelashes, deathdrops and many many high kicks in sky-high heels (watch your drinks!) as we were introduced to the drag-i-ators Achilles and Elekta for our entertainment engaging in Lipsynchs, Dance Off's and we got our voting paddles at the ready to crown the Queen of the Skies.. The entertainment is classy, fun and welcoming and we didn't want to leave.

We were treated like goddesses by the amazing staff who were exceptional, making sure we were topped up with drinks and comfortable. The venue used to be Bar Elba, and wow has it had a makeover since - we felt like we were in Ibiza with the sunshine and great vibes.

Our package included bottomless drinks for the duration and we also got to try the tasty street food offerings which are all cooked on-site and inspired by the Mediterranean The menu has many different options, designed to be eaten with your hands. We opted for the Dredged Buttermilk Chicken Fillet burger which was super tasty, crisp and fresh served with Circes' famous salt and pepper mouthwatering fries, it definitely hit the spot. We also had the Fish Goujon Brioche Butty with pea pesto and tartare sauce - better than a fish and chip shop… Both were restaurant quality, fresh and tasty and disappeared very quickly.
