Review of The Circus Afternoon Tea at Vintry and Mercer

In the heart of the city, Vintry and Mercer have created something truly magical: a circus-themed afternoon tea for adults and children alike. Choose from regular, vegetarian, or children's versions, and prepare to be dazzled. The decor was circus- themed with a light up circus sign, balloons for the kids, candy-stripe lollies, a popcorn machine, matching candy style crockery and bright red teacups.

The spectacle begins with a refillable popcorn tub and a whimsical Popping Apple Dini - a miniature candied apple dusted with popping candy. Then comes the main event: a three-tiered tower of delights. The savoury base features four exquisite treats: an egg mayo truffle brioche, smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich crowned with caviar, a coronation chicken brioche bun, and the showstopper of tender roast beef nestled in a Yorkshire pudding with horseradish cream. Next, warm buttermilk scones (both sultana and plain)  with strawberry jam and clotted cream, utterly divine.

But the real showstopper is the dessert tier: the Big Top raspberry and lemon mousse, delicate peach and raspberry macarons, Bobo the Clown (a blackberry and white chocolate cheesecake with bourbon marble sablé), and Balancing Nelly, a playful chocolate cake pop, with dry ice for the ultimate Instagram moment.

We savoured it all alongside fragrant Darjeeling tea, with generous refills of both food and drinks throughout. Miss out at your peril, it really is a wonderful weekend treat.

Prices start from £54.50pp
