Ivan Ramen on a Friday night is exactly what you want it to be: loud in a good way, packed, and buzzing with the kind of energy that makes you feel like you picked the right place. Every table was full, the floor and kitchen team were in full flow, and the whole room had that warm, slightly chaotic hum that signals serious food is about to happen. There was a short wait for the table as it’s bit of a local legend, but the general laughter and buzz of the other people waiting just added to the lively atmosphere so we were more than happy to catch up in the queue to wait for the table.
We kicked things off with the Crispy Natsu, which absolutely delivered, like honestly 10/10 as a great vegan option; Japanese aubergine, white sesame puree, mayu, togarashi, spring onions. Perfectly crisp on the outside, soft and fluffy within, set on a creamy Unami base it was deeply satisfying and indulgent. It’s the sort of starter that disappears faster than you expect and immediately sets the bar high. My friend was a slow eater and I found it extremely difficult to slow down to her pace.

For mains, we went veggie across the board. The Veggie Spicy Miso Red Chilli was bold, rich, and unapologetically spicy, with a deep, savoury broth that had real warmth and complexity rather than just heat for heat sake. Comforting but exciting, it’s the kind of bowl you keep thinking about long after the table has been cleared.
The Truffled Veggie was a completely different vibe but just as impressive. Earthy, aromatic, and luxuriously smooth, the truffle added a subtle depth rather than overpowering the dish. It felt indulgent without being heavy. Refined, balanced, and incredibly moreish. My friend topped hers off with an added egg which she assured me was super fudgy and delightful.
Between the electric atmosphere and the seriously well executed food, Ivan Ramen lived up to its reputation. It’s a place that feels special without being try hard, and on a Friday night especially, the party atmosphere and good vibes were flowing. The menu is concise in a way where you know they have it down, doing less but more, nailing each of their options.
Reservations: Walk in only but it’s worth the potential wait.
