Affordable Art Fair Battersea from 14-18 October

Next week, the Affordable Art Fair Battersea swings open its doors, welcoming art lovers, curious creatives and collectors-in-the-making from near and far. Taking place from 14–18 October at Evolution London in Battersea, the fair is set to be a celebration of art, with workshops to get your creative juices flowing and of course, plenty of art to fall in love with.

The Fair will welcome galleries making their Battersea debut, alongside its inaugural Tastemaker programme and a personal edit of artworks selected by Hugo Barclay, UK Fair Director. The Fair also announces the artists selected for its Graduate Showcase, curated by Jo McLaughlin, spotlighting emerging talent at the start of their careers. St-Germain returns as Official Spritz Partner, with cocktails at the Central Bar and an Elderflower Sommelier Experience in the entrance foyer, a glass of fizz in hand while your browse art, what’s not to love!

And because art and a good drink have always made a rather lovely pairing, St-Germain returns as Official Spritz Partner. Expect cocktails at the Central Bar, plus an Elderflower Sommelier Experience in the entrance foyer. Sip, browse, discover… honestly, what’s not to love? Young visitors will get their moment in the spotlight, too. The fair’s programme of family-friendly activities is designed to encourage children to get creative, get curious and, most importantly, get playful with art. There will be a Jet-Pack Workshop with Petit Pli from 10am-12pm, part of the family mornings.

There’s plenty more to explore…

Black History Month - A programme of free, drop-in workshops includes a Thursday zine-making session with Zoe Zine, celebrating Black artists and makers who have shaped Black Britain.

Art & Design to take home - The Fair Bookshop, in partnership with Papercup, welcomes Quarto and Thames & Hudson with a curated selection of art and design books.

After Dark - Art After Dark returns Thursday and Friday (5–9pm), bringing live DJs, complimentary welcome drinks and BHM workshops to the fair.

So whether you’re a seasoned collector, an art-world newbie, looking for your next favourite artist or simply looking for a fun day out surrounded by great art (and perhaps a St-Germain spritz or two), Affordable Art Fair Battersea is the place to be this October.

Address: Evolution London, Queenstown Road, Chelsea Bridge, London SW11 4NJ, UK

Natak delights with their contemporary pan-Indian menu

Many food establishments claim to serve up “re-invented” or “contemporary” versions of their respective country’s traditional cuisines. London’s Limehouse restaurant Natak, claims re-inventions of India’s most loved dishes. Not yet able to experience the restaurant’s ambience, which pays homage to India’s colourful culture and people, we dived straight into the food via the restaurant’s takeaway service and our anticipation was high.

The menu has familiar characters in it’s menu cast, and when the food arrives, the quality is instantly apparent from the recyclable and seemingly earthy packing (no cheap plastic containers here) to the presentation of the food.

Even in takeaway format, there was a sense of drama with our Hyderabadi Chicken Biryani fully encased in the dough which keeps the chicken deliciously moist. The Murg Makhanwala provides a deep orange, velvety accent to our plates, its buttery chicken was as delightful on the taste buds as it was on the eyes.

Other dishes which sit on the more autumnal side of the colour wheel include the Natak Paneer, a seemingly out of place Szechuan sauce popping with smoky and tender cubes of cheese. The signature Khasta kachoori chat comprises of flaky parcels filled with lentils and topped with chickpeas, yoghurt, tamarind and mint chutneys which is interrupted by little sweet explosions of pomegranate seeds.

Our green star of the show is the Gosht Saagwala, a flavour packed concerto of lamb, spinach, ginger, garlic and other spices. The best supporting actor prize is given to the silky, deep and creamy Dal bhukara.

Mopping our banquet up with naan and feeling sheepishly over indulged, we happily packed away half of the feast for a leftovers lunch. Indulgent feels like the right word for Natak’s refreshingly different and flavour packed dishes. Watch this space for a full review of the restaurant, we can’t wait to see if the colourful food and flavours are matched in the ambience. Natak is currently open for deliveries in an 8 mile radius around the restaurant. https://nataklondon.slerp.com/order.

As of 12th April you will be able to book a table in their outdoor terrace for lunch or dinner.
