Mel Brown brings open-fire dining to Roots at Tewinbury Farm this June

Just thirty minutes from London, Tewinbury Farm Hotel is set to launch the 2026 season of its much-loved Roots dining series with a special open-air supper club led by acclaimed chef Mel Brown on Friday 5th June.

Set within the flourishing vegetable gardens cultivated by Tewin Greens, Roots offers a uniquely immersive farm-to-table experience where guests dine amongst the produce that inspires the evening’s menu. Long communal tables stretch through the growing beds, with the surrounding Hertfordshire countryside and Tewinbury Farm itself creating a striking backdrop for the evening.

For this inaugural dinner of the season, New Zealand-born chef, sommelier and restaurateur Mel Brown will take over the fire, bringing her signature style of generous, produce-led cooking to the countryside setting. Best known as the founder of The Laundry, Brown’s career has seen her train in celebrated kitchens including Raymond Blanc’s Le Petit Blanc, Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen and Peter Gordon’s The Providores. More recently, she has become known for The Wild Table, her open-fire dining series centred around seasonal cooking, community and gathering outdoors.

The menu at Roots will evolve around whatever the garden is producing that week, celebrating early summer ingredients cooked over flame with a relaxed yet refined approach. Guests can expect vibrant lighter dishes to start, before moving into deeper, heartier plates as the evening unfolds. The focus throughout remains firmly on simplicity, sustainability and carefully sourced ingredients.

Alongside the food, wine specialists Humble Grape will provide thoughtfully matched wine pairings featuring low-intervention wines and small producers, with each pour chosen to complement the menu and atmosphere of the evening. Blending open-fire cooking, seasonal produce and countryside dining, Roots at Tewinbury Farm promises an idyllic escape from the city this summer.
