  • Comedy at the Bussey Building’s Rooftop

After the year we’ve had, we could all do with a laugh. We’ve loved spending time with our much-missed mates in pubs and restaurants, but now it’s time to take entertainment to new heights with a brand new season of comedy at Bussey Rooftop Bar, in collaboration with Plosive. With a stellar line-up featuring comedy legends Dylan Moran, Josie Long, Reginald D. Hunter, Paul Foot and Nish Kumar (with excellent support acts to boot!), Bussey Rooftop Bar’s comedy experience is bringing the very best that the UK comedy circuit has to offer for a fantastic sky-high night out. Cocktails, craft ales and pizza from Share a Slice will also be available (via contactless ordering and table service to keep the experience COVID-safe). Whether you’re a comedy fanatic or just dipping your toes into the world of stand up, there should be something for everyone at the Rooftop Comedy Experience this summer. Head to the rooftop on 9th July for an evening with comedy genius Paul Foot, or visit on 16th July to see Netflix star Nish Kumar do his thing. On 23rd July, Bussey Rooftop will host American stand-up and regular on the panel show circuit, Reginald D. Hunter, whilst 30th July will see the wonderful Josie Long take to the stage. Dylan Moran fans are in luck, with the Irish comic headlining not one but three nights (30th June, 1st and 3rd July). For tickets to all events please here. • Sky Launches Sky Glass

Amidst the laser light roof, the gargantuan screens, the intimate staging and a custom song from Griff, Sky launched their first foray into the TV market with ‘Sky Glass’ with glitzy abandon at Magazine in North Greenwich. A TV they have designed and built with Sky built-in. Glass is Sky in a TV and is a beautiful bit of kit, made from anodised aluminium with a woven mesh frame. The TV packs a punch thanks to the Dolby Atmos sound and 4k Ultra HD Quantum Dot – colours are crisp and good for films. Available in Small (43″), Medium (55″) and Large (65″), the TV senses when you are close and turns on, or lift the remote and the device springs to life. Best of all? Glass is available in five colours (Blue, pink, green, white and black) and multiple magnetic front covers (starting at £39) which offer you further personalisation options. The user interface is also getting an update to align with what Netflix and Amazon have known for a while; pictures say more than masses of lines of shortened text, so say bye-bye to the hideous TB Guide. The unit comes with a stand or wall bracket, and Sky will help you install it and take away the cardboard box. Sky also announced that the Sky Stream puck (£50) will mimic the content across other screens in your home, so there is no need to buy six TVs. Sky also teased a product that’s due to come out in 2022 – a camera unit that sits on top of the box that tech people will liken to Xbox Kinect (RIP) and Amazon’s many attempts at getting in your bedroom (Amazon Look etc). The device will enable you to play games, work out, connect with family and friends via Zoom and a whole lot more besides thanks to skeletal scanning. The tiny box will do many more things besides these and will have a lot of privacy and data issues to contend with before consumers adopt this. Sadly, Glass still requires you to have a remote (although Sky has made it smaller and paired down the number of buttons), the future, for now at least, is voice and a few buttons. the design will melt into walls rather than stand out and offers superb sound and picture quality. Pricing-wise, Glass is priced to flood the market, £39 a month if you purchase with an interest-free loan (Sky Glass + Sky Ultimate TV) or purchase in one go starting at £649 for the small unit, £849 for Medium and £1,049 for the large version. Delivery is within 3-5 days starting October 18th. For more information visit: https://www.sky.com/glass Written by Paul Armstrong Photography courtesy of Sky #sky #skyglass

  • Canary Wharf to Host Series of Events in Honour of World Mental Health Day

October 10th marks World Mental Health Day, a day that encourages us all to change the conversation around how we talk about mental health issues and to dismantle the idea that mental wellbeing is a taboo subject. It’s been a trying two years which has taken a toll on the world in numerous ways, with many experiencing isolation and loss on a level they’ve never experienced before. To help combat this, London Artist Annie Nicholson, known as The Fandangoe Kid, has curated a series of events and activities that will take place throughout the month, all focusing on ways to nourish your mental health. Having experienced her own history of loss and trauma, she uses her past journey to fuel her art in order to help make an impact on others. Head to Canary Wharf this month (1st – 31st Oct) to take part in workshops, performances, installations and community talks. Fandangoe Whip workshops will take place between October 8th – 10th. All funds raised by event ticket sales will be donated to Thrive LDN (www.thriveldn.co.uk), a local charity dedicated to improving the mental health and wellbeing of young people in London. Ice Cream for Mental Health Join The Fandangoe Kid in her “Fandangoe Whip,” a hand-painted ice cream van where Nicholson holds workshops, allowing people to open up about their experiences while enjoying an ice cream cone with others. Future Desires! Zine Workshop Brainstorm what change you want to see in the future and turn it into a Zine in this workshop with Graphic Artist Saucy Sez. ‘Comforting corners of our city’: Workshop Join artist Coco Lom as you step outside and explore the many shapes and colours that the city offers. Use this as inspiration to create your own postcard. Dancing as a Tool for Survival with The Fandangoe Kid Let loose and learn how dance can be a form of self-care, while discussing what movement means to you in an inclusive space. Letters That Will Never Be Sent Write a letter to your younger self, someone you’ve lost, someone who has hurt you, or anything that you’ve been keeping inside. Lara Haworth encourages you to use writing as a tool for survival. • The world’s first-ever immersive DC-themed dining experi-venture at The Monarch Theatre

If Tate Modern, Secret Cinema and Planet Hollywood had a baby, the result would be The Monarch Theatre, Park Row London. The world’s first-ever immersive DC-themed dining experi-venture at The Monarch Theatre, Park Row London in Soho. An elevated experience that will please the fans and enthral diners who are looking for something truly unique. Park Row is huge. After entering Wayne Manor, you descend the stairs several levels to arrive in Gotham and Park Row. Walk forward to Pennyworths bar, and you’ll see the wickedly unique robotic Glenfiddich pour (you have been warned) before you see the +300-seats available. Don’t expect The Penguin, Harley Quinn, The Joker and Catwoman to greet or serve you; remember, this isn’t Planet Hollywood. Instead, look out for the multiple homages paid to the characters around Park Row. From the nod to batman in the label for the custom-made whiskey to the Joker busts, Park Row weaves the characters into the surroundings, drinks (make sure you try ‘The Blue Boy’ and get your camera ready…) and bespoke elements (levitating cocktail drop, anyone?). Explore further, and you’ll find the Iceberg Lounge, a homage to Oswald Cobblepot, also known as The Penguin. Old Gotham City is nestled away at the back and serves villainous talk and late-night cocktails. Who knows? There may even be a Poison Ivy bar opening soon… Diners in the central area get to choose from a different menu from Monarch Theatre guests but do get superb live bands and singers that transport you to a different era. Monarch Theatre is the jewel in the crowd of Park Row. A 20-person sensory, gastronomic experience that pushes what fine dining can, maybe should(?!), be. The eleven courses span three hours, and each gets introduced by your dedicated narrator explaining the food, drink and DC elements that envelope you. The floor-to-ceiling environment changes throughout your meal, and each gets carefully considered to enhance your enjoyment of the food you are tasting. The thought behind each plate is clear to the presentation, and the visuals all work together to create something that will stay with you. There are plenty of surprises along the way that we won’t spoil for you too much. Just submit and enjoy the hard work that’s been put in. Created by a trio of the best in the business along with owners Wonderland Restaurants; Sysco Productions (AV specialists and story engineers), ISO Design (media designers) and, Fraser Randall (project management consultant), The Monarch Theatre, Park Row London has to be seen and felt to be believed. • Mulan Rouge Launches at The Vaults – Disney Meets Luhrmann in New Immersive Dining Experience

Looking for something different, or just want to inject some fun into these cold autumn evenings in London? Well, here is the mash-up performance you never knew you needed – an interactive show mixing cabaret, comedy and burlesque, based on Disney’s Mulan and Baz Luhrmann’s film adaptation of the Moulin Rouge. The new Mulan Rouge show opens from the 15th of October and takes place at London Waterloo’s iconic The Vault Theatre on Leake Street. Written and directed by renowned activist and drag artist ShayShay, this brand new immersive experience has two ticket options – either general admission or dining tickets that include a four-course feast, served up alongside this drag-tactic parity of scandal, dancing and naughty delights. The narrative, from drag artist, writer and director ShayShay, starts with rumours from distant lands: the Huns are preparing to attack. Mulan disguises themself as a man to join the war effort, but when their regiment commandeers the glittering Mulan Rouge as its training site, they find themselves surrounded by glitz, glamour and go-go girls. Come what may, Mulan’s true identity must be protected to defeat The Huns and defend the honour of the Mulan Rouge. Extravagant and eccentric performances aside, the food and free-flowing cocktails are also fabulous, with catering from Flavourology (the team behind ginger line) featuring classic French cuisine fused with Asian flavours. There is also plenty on offer for vegetarians, including sticky soy and garlic tofu in lettuce wraps, baked Camembert with a ginger chilli sauce and freshly baked baguette, and braised lamb or butternut squash. The show runs from 7-10pm and the dress code is “hot París night at the Mulan Rouge”. So, dress to impress, with all looks, from cabaret-glam to warrior-chic, welcomed for this fabulous night out. General admission tickets range from £45 – £60 To buy your ticket visit: https://www.thevaults.london/mulan-rouge Written by Lupe Castro Photography courtesy of The Vault Theatre #mulanrouge #thevaults
