Review of Taro in Holloway Road

We headed to the 11th outpost of Taro with hungry bellies and great expectations and were not disappointed. Their newest branch has a great Japanese menu but with a quirky London twist, in homage to the nearby Arsenal stadium and many other London spots. We had a surprise appetiser - a piping hot bowl of tasty miso soup, followed by some wonderful Ebi Shrimp Dumplings, beautifully cooked with a great dipping sauce. We also tried the deliciously fresh Hamachi Sashimi salad with avocado, with a tangy dressing we devoured very quickly.

We opted for two of the house special rolls - the Taro roll with avocado, crab stick with mayonnaise  and teriyaki sauce topped with grilled eel and the Dragon roll with avocado, crab stick with mayonnaise  and teriyaki sauce topped with grilled eel and  tobiko. Both were absolutely beautifully crafted with a very generous 8 pieces each, delivering fresh-tasting sushi with the spicy toppings and a real artistry in the presentation. We enjoyed the grilled eel so much we ordered the Uteriyaki Bento box which had a huge tasty fillet atop a bed of soya sauce rice. We also tried the Ebi Prawn which was the best Tempura we’ve had in a while. The servings were  more than generous, so much so that we had to skip dessert and take the rest home.

Great for a quick bite or a longer dinner to enjoy - we heartily approve!
