Review of Gordon Ramsay at Sea Containers

Gordon Ramsay at Sea Containers is the new riverside restaurant on London's South Bank inside the stylish Sea Containers London hotel, which opened in early September, bringing a touch of glamour to the South bank. Inside you are greeted with plush velvet seating, sleek marble tables, rich walnut finishes and statement artwork adorning the walls. It looks opulent and exactly what you would expect at a high end Gordon Ramsay restaurant.

The outdoor terrace is also very impressive, overlooking the River Thames, with views of of St Pauls cathedral. It’s quite a backdrop, and one that makes this a particularly special spot for a leisurely lunch or an evening drink with dinner. An open kitchen brings a sense of theatre to the dining room, while the central bar makes an inviting focal point. My advice? Arrive a little early, find yourself a spot at the bar and settle in with a cocktail or two before taking your seat. With surroundings this stylish, there’s no need to rush.

The menu honours the hotel’s maritime setting through dedicated sections, offering guests seafood delicacies such as Fruits de Mer, Whole Native Lobster, and Cornish Crab Tagliolini. For those who prefer something from the grill, there are substantial cuts including a 45-day-aged Rib Eye and a sharing Côte de Bœuf. Of course some of Ramsay’s most recognisable dishes also make an appearance, from the iconic Beef Wellington and classic Fish & Chips to the more playful Idiot Sandwich flight.

We received a warm welcome by the host and was swiftly taken to our table, the menu looked impressive and for starters we opted for the Atlantic Prawn Pint, which came with a generous portion of Atlantic prawns, which were fresh and meaty, when I say generous, I really mean it, I could have ordered this and a couple glasses of wine and I would have been happily content! The prawns were accompanied by Marie Rose espuma, brown shrimp butter, cucumber, dill and charcoal bread. The brown shrimp butter paired beautifully with the bread, while the cucumber and dill brought a refreshing lightness that balanced the richness of the dish. Beautifully presented and thoughtfully put together, it delivered on both flavour and texture. For seafood lovers, this is an absolute must-order.

For the main, I opted of the slow-glazed Suffolk Duroc pork belly, which was highly recommended by our waiter. The pork belly was beautifully cooked and tender with a lovely glaze that added a rich, savoury sweetness. The Burt apple complemented the pork perfectly, bringing a subtle sweetness to the dish, and the charred hispi was also a highlight. Every element felt carefully considered, creating a well-balanced plate that was both comforting and refined.

The sticky toffee pudding was the perfect way to finish the meal. wonderfully moist, and full of rich toffee flavour, it was a real treat from the first bite to the last. I made sure the dessert was swimming in sweet toffee sauce, just the way I like it! A classic dessert executed beautifully!

Gordon Ramsay at Sea Containers didn’t disappoint, it was everything we expected and more, the dishes were executed brilliantly, the staff were welcoming and attentive and located in Sea Containers hotel, it made it that extra special!
