Psychedelic Gong Bath with the Psychedelic Society – Review

Feeling run down after the long bank holiday, an evening of sound healing was potentially the only thing that would have lured me out of my cocooned state. Set in the incredible Round Chapel venue in Clapton, I had heard incredible things about the evening events here but never had the chance to experience them myself.

Walking into the space there is an instant sense of calm but community. Groups of people with blankets and bedding in a circle around the room, lying dead in the middle there were 4 large gongs, setting the tone for the evening. We settled down for some lucid blue lotus tea which is said to enhance hypnotic and psychedelic states. It was warming and delicious, once drunk I was ready to be entranced.

As soon as Kat Bumbul of Sound Msyterium started to speak I could feel myself falling into a lulled state, sinking deeper into the ground. Beginning with Sharman drumming, travelling around the rooms and over our heads, everything after the first 10 mins is a bit of a blur.

Gongs, bowls, charms and some other instruments I could not decipher, for an hour and a half I let the vibrations wash over me in a complete stupor. Once or twice I stirred and peeked at the gorgeous barrelled church ceiling lit up with purple uplighters. It was all around pretty spectacular. Ending the session with another tea, some warm goodbyes, and a slow and soft entry into my evening, I couldn’t think of a better way to end the weekend and welcome in the week.
