MOTH and Dishoom’s Permit Room gives the Mojito a Bombay-inspired twist

There’s a rather good reason to make your way to Dishoom’s Permit Room this October. MOTH has joined forces with the Bombay-inspired bar-café to create the Rani Mojito, a limited-edition take on the classic cocktail and, rather surprisingly, the first time MOTH has ever allowed its canned Mojito to be given a twist. The collaboration takes MOTH’s award-winning Mojito, made with Duppy Share rum, lime and mint, and adds Dishoom's cardamom vermouth. The result promises to be juicy, bittersweet and gently fragrant, with cardamom, the so-called queen of spices, and the inspiration behind the name Rani adding a distinctly Bombay flourish.

It feels like a particularly natural meeting of the two brands. MOTH has built its following around properly made cocktails in its signature little black cans, while Permit Room brings the irreverent spirit and flavours of Bombay to its all-day bars. Here, something familiar has simply been nudged somewhere a little more interesting. Permit Room itself takes its inspiration from Bombay’s historic drinking culture. When liquor was prohibited in the city in 1949, ingenious ways of circumventing the rules inevitably followed. Later, liquor permits could be obtained ostensibly for the “preservation or maintenance of health” and by the 1970s the Permit Room had become part of the city’s social landscape.

Today, Dishoom’s version is rather more relaxed about the paperwork, serving breakfasts, curries, sharing plates, bar snacks and an extensive cocktail list throughout the day. For the Rani Mojito, MOTH’s zesty lime and mint base is lifted by the aromatic warmth of cardamom vermouth. It sounds refreshing enough to retain everything we want from a Mojito, while introducing just enough spice and bitterness to make it feel appropriate for the first days of autumn.

MOTH: Rani Mojito is available throughout October 2026, exclusively at Dishoom Permit Room, priced at £9.

You’ll find it at Permit Room locations in Brighton, Cambridge, Oxford, Portobello Road in London and the newly opened Liverpool outpost.
