Liu Xiaomian unveils a spicy new look and its hottest-ever noodle challenge
Chongqing noodle specialist Liu Xiaomian has revealed a bold new look at its Carnaby restaurant, bringing the neon-lit, cyberpunk energy of its founders’ hometown to the heart of London. Located on the first floor of Kingly Court, the refreshed restaurant features striking red tiles, metallic finishes, extended seating and a brand-new bar area. Inspired by Chongqing’s dramatic skyline, elevated roads and glowing cityscape, the redesign creates a vibrant setting for Liu Xiaomian’s famously fiery noodles, wontons and sides.
The refreshed menu also introduces Chao Shou Mian, a new dish combining handmade Chongqing-style pork wontons and noodles in one bowl. To celebrate its spicy new chapter and National Noodle Day, Liu Xiaomian is inviting Londoners to take on its hottest-ever Spicy & Numbing Noodle Challenge.
Six challengers per session will face four increasingly intense rounds of Chongqing noodles, made with the ferocious “Starry Sky” chilli and numbing red Sichuan peppercorn. The challenge is focused on heat rather than quantity, with the final rounds reaching at least three times the restaurant’s regular spice level.
There is one crucial rule: no water, drinks or additional food are allowed. Anyone reaching for relief will be eliminated, while the last challenger standing will win a year’s supply of Liu Xiaomian noodles; one complimentary bowl per month for 12 months.
Sessions take place at 5.30pm on 11th, 12th, 25th and 26th October. Entry costs £12, redeemable against selected merchandise, with just six spaces available per session. Participants must be aged 18 or over, and full terms and health guidance apply.
Address: First floor, Kingly Ct, Carnaby, London W1B 5PW
