Interview with Rachel Kettlewell, Founder of Fearne & Rosie

We caught up with Rachel Kettlewell, Founder of Fearne & Rosie, where the name came from, what inspired Rachel and so much more.

What inspired you to create Fearne & Rosie

5 years ago I had a bit of an idea… What if we could make a jam that contained more fruit and less sugar? Sounds simple, right?

I could see beautiful, traditionally crafted jams sitting in Farm Shops and independents. But when I looked at the supermarket shelves (which is where I was shopping for my family), I could see a lot of products with 60-70% sugar, with added concentrate and acids… none of which are really needed to craft deliciously tasty, fruit filled jams (or preserves…).

With Fearne (age 4) , Rosie (age 2) and George (in my tummy). I set myself a target… Could I get Fearne & Rosie into 10 Farm Shops within a month? That first month we launched into 30 Farm Shops.

What has been your biggest achievement to date?

Gosh, there have been a few! Waitrose & Partners listing Fearne & Rosie ®️ | B Corp followed by Yorkshire Morrisons and Ocado Retail. It’s been a busy few years with Dragons’ Den, Covid, BBC Children in Need, FareShare UK, launching in Asda and Co-op with Tesco on the way… We really have been so lucky… and we’re so grateful!

Is there anything exciting you are working on that you can spill the beans on?

We have new recipes launching with BBC Children in Need which is exciting! The team there are such good fun and they work so hard to try and support families across the UK.

Last year our recipes were downloaded by thousands of families and schools so we're all looking forward to seeing what happens this year!

Best piece of advice you have been given?

I like, no matter what anyone tells you there are only 2 or 3 things that you have to do in any day. When I'm feeling busy, or overwhelmed (which can happen often in a start up!). I remind myself that really there are 2 or 3 things that I can do that will help to make or break our business. Those things are urgent. The rest can wait.

How do you set yourself apart from other healthy brands for kids?

I think it's brilliant that we are starting to see so many brands stepping up and providing healthier alternatives - the more the berrier! I'd say that Fearne & Rosie is a family brand... rather than a product for children.

We want to grow to become one of the UK's most loved and trusted family brands delivering on taste by crafting delicious, fruit-filled preserves but also playing our part to educate and inspire healthier lifestyle choices. Have you spotted our new packaging? We wanted to create a well deserved treat... in a jar that you would love to keep.

What would your ideal day in London be like?

I live in Yorkshire but visit London most weeks for work. For a work day I love it when I can walk from Kings Cross to wherever I'm going.

I like to get outside after a couple of hours on the train. If there's time after meetings it's a treat to take a walk along the river. With family, we love the science museum and Regent's Park is always fun! I love London and feel incredibly lucky that I get to visit so often.
