Gaucho opens up in Covent Garden – The launch review

Mounted polo players, Argentinian Tango, delicious menu canapes and a star-studded party heralded the arrival of Gaucho in Covent Garden this month. We were lucky enough to attend and visit the sleek and stylish location just a two minute walk from Covent Garden station. The new restaurant boasts two floors with a showstopper bar area and an open kitchen downstairs with plush velvet seating and intimate lighting inspired by Argentinian dancehalls and bars.

As the evening got started we were served canapes of Fried Seabass Ceviche served on arepa bread, Beetroot Ceviche with Mango, chili and coriander, and Scallops with Nduja butter, agua chile verde and lemon crumb. Some of the signature dishes were on show and of course the famous steak. We tried the Steak Tartare, Beef Empanadas and Fried Chicken, all off-menu but delicious tasters to tempt us into coming back at a later date.

During the evening there were two stunning dance performances with professionals showcasing the ArgentinianTango amongst the crowd downstairs, to give a taste of the experiences available at the new restaurant. A live DJ was spinning big tunes and created a club vibe with most of the room up dancing.

On Friday and Saturday nights from 10.30pm the party will get started until the wee small hours. Gaucho Covent Garden will open daily with brand new breakfast dishes from Eggs Benedict to Porridge as well as a classic Full English, a three-course set lunch for  £30 and pre-theatre dining, alongside Gaucho’s signature selection of standout 100% carbon neutral steaks, sourced from Argentina.

Trays of signature cocktails kept coming – and with the extensive collection of Argentinian wines available, you really are spoilt for choice to accompany your meal. The cocktail menu includes signature serves, and mocktails with a real focus on sustainable drinks which are either carbon-negative or climate-positive choices.
