A review of Vertus Edit in Canary Wharf

Canary Wharf has changed a lot over the years. Once known for glass towers and corporate offices, the area has evolved into one of East London’s most interesting places to stay, with waterside walks, sought-after restaurants, green spaces, shops and community events. For a long time, staying in Canary Wharf could feel like an indulgence reserved for those with a generous budget. Enter Vertus Edit, a modern aparthotel offering a fresh and more accessible take on a stay in one of London’s most sought-after neighbourhoods.

Rather than simply providing a room for the night, Vertus Edit is designed to feel like your own London base: somewhere to settle in, make yourself at home and experience Canary Wharf at your own pace. Vertus Edit is spread across two buildings on West Lane and has 378 studios, ranging from compact spaces designed for shorter visits to larger rooms suited to longer stays.

The Facilities

Vertus Edit has been designed around the idea that guests might want more from their stay than simply a comfortable bedroom. The shared spaces are thoughtful, spacious and inviting. Up on the top floor, you’ll find a beautiful, generously sized co-working space, an ideal spot to catch up on emails or work for the day. There’s complimentary tea and coffee available too, which means there’s no need to keep heading back to your studio every time you fancy a cuppa. The terrace is a highlight. It’s a lovely place to unwind with a leisurely drink, offering a welcome change of pace from the buzz of Canary Wharf below.

There’s also a small but well-equipped gym, perfect for fitting in a morning workout before heading out for the day. Vertus Edit also runs a programme of events designed to bring guests together with creative activities and wellness classes. There is a mini shop in reception, perfect for those staying for several nights and also a Whole Foods and Waitrose within walking distance, making it easy to do a bigger shop.

My Room

Walking into the studio, the first thing that struck me was how contemporary and stylish it looked, I had booked the more spacious studio size, which suited me nicely. Every studio comes with its own fully equipped kitchen, double bed, WiFi and bathroom with a walk-in shower. The kitchenette is small but perfectly suited for a short stay, there’s a fridge/freezer, hob, oven, microwave, toaster, kettle and the necessary cookware and cutlery, meaning you're not completely reliant on restaurants if you prefer to stay in and cook.

Food and Drink

One of the advantages of staying in Canary Wharf is that you don't have to look far for somewhere good to eat. There is an impressive selection of restaurants, cafés and bars. Staying for one night only, we definitely explored the area and excitedly choose Hawksmoor to dine in and then headed to Lina Stores for drinks. The morning however the kitchenette was in full use, I made a full English breakfast for both me and my partner. We had a full day ahead of exploring, and this was the perfect fuel to start the day.

Final Thoughts

Vertus Edit isn't trying to be a traditional hotel, and I think that's exactly why it works. It's stylish, practical and modern, offering the comfort and service you'd expect from a hotel while giving you the freedom and flexibility of your own apartment. The studios are thoughtfully designed and the facilities make it particularly appealing for anyone staying for more than a couple of nights. The one thing to be aware of is there no air conditioning, so during warmer weather is can be uncomfortable, fans are provided, but may not be ideal on extremely hot days in summer.

The location is great, staying in Wood Wharf in Canary Wharf, feels more like a vibrant neighbourhood, with an excellent array of restaurants and bars, it’s a part of London that I think is well worth discovering. During the summer month, they have screens up showing movies, summer sports games and much more, so deffo worth checking out the Canary ward website to see what’s happening in the area, if you do book a night at Vertus Edit.
