A 15-metre, hand painted mural by artist Lydia Hamblet in Canary Wharf

A 15-metre, hand painted mural by artist Lydia Hamblet in Canary Wharf

Wrapping a brick wall, spanning 15 meters and hugging the water – Lydia Hamblet’s lively colourful piece ” Basking on the South Quay” brightens up an otherwise blank space. The piece is a riot of bright sunshine hues with accents of pink, orange, blue and spattered with heart shapes, a stunning love letter to the Wharf.

Lydia was commissioned by the fantastic team at Canary Wharf Group. She described it as a labour of love to get it finished in time for the unveiling. Lydia joins the likes of Camille Walala, Ron Arad, Henry Moore as part of the 100-piece collection across Canary Wharf.  She is represented by Pictorum Gallery who work with  emerging female artists and Lydia’s show at their Mayfair space was so successful it seemed the next step was to take her work outdoors. It’s worth braving to see in person and pacing the length to get the full effect.

To view Lydia’s artwork, head down to Montgomery Street overlooking South Doc.
