The Lucky Pig, Fitzrovia, Cocktail Review

Tucked away below street level in Fitzrovia, The Lucky Pig offers exactly what you hope for in a cute London basement cocktail bar; intimate, dimly lit, and bags of character. Descending the stairs, it feels like stepping into a speakeasy style hideaway, with the central focus on drinks and atmosphere.

We settled into the snug, a cave like booth tucked off the main room that somehow manages to feel both private and vibsey. The low lighting and both style seating invite slow conversation and lingering sips, making it the perfect spot to escape the bustle above and truly settle in. I was here on a friend date but it definitely felt like a good shout if you were looking for a romantic / date type spot.

The cocktail menu is extensive and full of creativity, so much so we went with the bartender’s recommendations as we couldn’t choose for ourselves. We started with the Mexican New Fashioned, a vibrant twist on the classic with pineapple tequila and bright citrus notes that gave it a refreshing tropical kick. Following with a pallet cleanser in the form of the Persephone; elegant and floral, blending Hendrick’s gin with elderflower and lavender for a silky, aromatic sip. Finished off with an adorable edible flower garnish, it was a refreshing spring like affair, perfect if you like something a bit sweeter and lighter.

Finally, the Sexy Smoker completely stole the show for me; Mezcal, Cointreau liqueur, lime and grapefruit juice with some agave for sweetness. Garnished with a Cayenne pepper rim and dehydrated lime, this was like a variation on a mezcal Marg which I would order every time given the choice. Each drink felt thoughtfully composed, served with flair, and perfectly matched to its glassware, reinforcing the sense that no detail here is an afterthought.

Service strikes a good balance between knowledgeable and relaxed, guiding you through the menu without ever feeling rushed. I would recommend The Lucky Pig for a date night or a cheeky cocktail night with the girls. There were also some fun cocktail masterclasses going on in the other side of the bar when we were there so check them out if you are looking for something else to do on the works night out!
