Lockdown Bakehouse heads to Putney with £1 coffee & pastries all day on 3rd June

As London’s bakery scene continues to rise, South West favourite Lockdown Bakehouse is preparing to open the doors to its newest neighbourhood outpost in Putney this June, bringing handcrafted breads, pastries and its much-loved community spirit to SW15.

Opening on 3rd June at 79 Lower Richmond Road, the new site marks the sixth location for the fast-growing independent bakery, which first launched during the uncertainty of the 2020 lockdown. To celebrate the opening, customers can enjoy coffee and pastries for just £1 all day, offering locals the perfect excuse to discover the bakery’s signature bakes and brunch dishes.

What began as a small-scale operation run by founders Chris and Dawn from their MYPIE kitchen quickly became a South West London success story. Initially created to provide fresh essentials for local residents and NHS workers during lockdown, the business soon built a devoted following thanks to its handcrafted breads, buttery pastries and approachable café culture.

Now, six years on, Lockdown Bakehouse has firmly established itself as one of London’s standout independent bakery brands, with existing cafés in Wandsworth, Barnes, Clapham, Earlsfield and Raynes Park, alongside a Wimbledon production bakehouse supplying more than 180 wholesale customers across the capital daily.

The Putney opening continues the brand’s steady expansion across South West London, bringing with it an Australian-inspired café menu, speciality coffee with free alternative milks, fresh daily bakes and a well-sourced brunch offering designed for everything from quick coffee stops to leisurely weekend mornings.

Tigermilk Spitalfields, located on Crispin Street, brings Latin American dining to East London with gorgeous interiors, flowing cocktails and a menu made for indulgent sharing. The restaurant fits up to 280 guests across an interconnected courtyard, orangery, terrace, and large central dining space. Tropical greenery and warm lighting create a dramatic hacienda-style atmosphere. At the centre sits a six-metre tequila bar lined with over 2,000 bottles. This centrepiece can make cancelling your evening plans feel totally reasonable!

Fresh tacos, vibrant salads and smoky grilled dishes arrive at the table almost effortlessly, matching the restaurant’s energetic lunchtime

atmosphere.

The baby truffle quesadilla was rich but not overly heavy and the sweet potato tacos were fresh, vibrant, and full of flavour (a standout dish, which I highly reccomend).

The “Green But Not Boring” salad more than justified its playful name. Peppery rocket, crisp broccoli florets and creamy avocado were lifted by caramelised hazelnuts and a sweet agave vinaigrette. My dining partner choose the Carne Asada, a British-cured beef flank steak that delivers smoky depth and tenderness, paired with a vibrant chimichurri sauce that cuts through the richness perfectly.

For dessert I choose the Brioche Perdue, Tigermilk’s decadent take on French toast, it was indulgent dessert, exactly how I like it! Creamy richness with candied hazelnuts, adding crunch and texture.

New to Spitalfields, (opened only for three weeks), I can see why it’s creating quite the stir! The food is fresh, vibrant and full of bold flavours, with generous portions, offering excellent value for money. Tigermilk takes its cocktail offering as seriously as its food. Flowing margaritas, smoky mezcal cocktails, and vibrant tropical serves make the drinks menu feel indulgent and designed for long evenings with friends.

If your ideal dining out involves bold Latin American flavours, cocktails and interiors dramatic enough to make your camera roll suffer, then Tigermilk Spitalfields deserves a spot on your radar.
