Diwali Festival at Greenwich Peninsula on 18th October

Celebrate Diwali at Greenwich Peninsula with a joyful day of dance, music, food and shared tradition. Join drop-in workshops to decorate Dandiya sticks, participate in Dandiya Raas and Garba dance rehearsals, and create Diwali lanterns to light up the evening. The programme fills Peninsula Square, Design District and Barton Yard with rhythm, colour and connection, welcoming participants of all ages and backgrounds.

As night falls, experience a vibrant procession led by an illuminated rickshaw, four Dhol drummers and ten Garba dancers in traditional costume winding through Design District to Barton Yard for a spectacular group dance under a canopy of lights. A curated street food market showcases authentic South Asian cuisine with independent vendors serving regional dishes, sweets and drinks, while Canteen Food Hall & Bar stays open with DJs playing Bollywood beats and South Asian sounds.

The free celebration draws inspiration from Gujarati folk traditions, with Dandiya and Garba symbolising joy, unity and the triumph of good over evil. Greenwich Peninsula is easily accessible from North Greenwich tube station (Jubilee Line), the IFS Cloud Cable Car and Uber Boat by Thames Clippers (North Greenwich Pier).
