  • Review of Masakali

Masakali has landed in central London, bringing its modern Indian offering to a spot just minutes from Warren Street. The concept is straightforward and confident: classic Indian recipes, drawn from generations of home cooking, presented with a contemporary edge that suits the city. The menu pulls inspiration from across India’s diverse food culture, moving easily between street-food style small plates and richer, comfort-led mains. Its food is designed for sharing, lingering over, and returning to, rather than anything overly fussy or heavy. Masakali’s name, meaning “pigeon” in Hindi, is a nod to freedom and joy, inspired by the famous Bollywood song of the same name. That sense of energy runs through the restaurant, from the upbeat atmosphere to a drinks list that goes beyond the usual. Cocktails are well thought-out, with curated wines and spirits chosen to stand up to bold, spiced flavours. We began with a Lychee Mocktail, which was heavenly, light and refreshing and not overly sweet, a luxurious way to start our lunch and fire up our taste buds. Along with our cocktails, we trialled the Soup Shots, an amuse-bouche style dish of soup tasters served in spice-dusted tiny glasses. The tomato broth packed a surprising amount of flavour, with plenty of warming spice and an unexpectedly hot kick. The Chicken & Mushroom Broth with Truffle was steeped in rich flavour and perfect for those less tolerant to hot spice. The menu offers a range of small plates and starters for sharing. We began with the Beetroot Legacy, crisp beetroot and pine nut croquettes with beetroot hummus, which was well balanced and beautifully put together on the plate. The Tempura Cauliflower with Curry Mayo was exactly what it should be: light, crunchy, packed with spice so rich it was hard to stop eating. Mains stick close to the classics, with Masakali flair. We opted for the Goan Prawn Curry, with the coconut, kokum, and traditional spices working in harmony, plus plenty of juicy prawns. The Old Delhi Butter Chicken delivered familiar comfort: a generous amount of tender chicken in a smooth, spiced tomato and butter sauce. Both dishes were well-balanced and served in portions which were not too overwhelming. Leaving room for dessert, we ordered the Apricot Delight, which turned out to be the standout dish of the meal. Sweet apricots, nuts, fluffy sponge and the chef’s cream came together in a pudding that was indulgent, smooth and pure heaven, not overly sugary, well-textured, and definitely memorable. We left feeling like we had genuinely feasted, inspired by well-balanced ingredients and textures. Masakali London gets the balance right: respectful of tradition, modern without trying too hard, and confident in what it does best. A solid addition to London’s Indian dining scene and a good option for everything from relaxed dinners to group occasions. Address: 48 Stanhope Street, London, NW1 3EX To book click here. • Review of Noodle & Beer in Spitalfields

Tucked away from the constant buzz surrounding Spitalfields, is Noodle & Beer, serving up bold, authentic Chinese noodles with a curated beer selection. Noodle & Beer focus on Sichuan and Chongqing-style cooking, offering up dishes with heat, bold flavours. warming spice and designed to be savoured slowly. Spice lovers will be right at home here, many of the dishes pack serious heat, with some proudly marked with five chilli symbols. That said, the menu doesn’t feel intimidating. If, like me, you enjoy flavour more than fiery endurance, the staff are incredibly knowledgeable and more than happy to guide you towards dishes that balance warmth and depth without overwhelming the palate. The beer offering is thoughtfully curated to complement the food. Expect ice-cold bottles and rotating selections that cut through the richness and spice of the dishes. As a self-confessed dumpling lover, ordering the Choo-Shou Sichuan dumplings was non-negotiable. Served on a bed of vibrant chilli oil, the minced pork dumplings are finished with a scattering of spring onions and crunchy nuts. They deliver a satisfying kick, but the heat never overshadows the flavour. Perfectly cooked, and dangerously moreish, the kind of dish that has you wishing you’d ordered a second bowl before finishing the first. My dining partner opted for the beef spring roll, a single, generously sized piece that instantly brought back fond memories of a previous visit to their China Town branch. It’s a standout for good reason: crisp, flaky pastry giving way to juicy, well-seasoned beef inside. Simple, comforting and executed brilliantly. For my main, I chose the Wan-Za Mian , a beautiful bowl of wheat noodles topped with minced pork, peas, cabbage, spring onions, pickled greens, chilli sauce and peanuts. When it arrives, you’re encouraged to really dig in and mix everything together so the sauce pooled at the bottom coats every strand of noodle. Once mixed, the dish comes alive: rich, nutty, spicy and deeply satisfying, with layers of texture and flavour in every mouthful. It is a generous portion, so come hungry! If you’re searching for authentic, flavour-driven Chinese noodles with real personality, paired with a casual, sociable atmosphere, Noodle & Beer more than delivers. The thoughtful balance of spice, fresh ingredients, standout small plates and cold beers makes it a Shoreditch favourite for good reason. Address: 31 Bell Ln, London, E1 7LA To book click here . • Review of Su-Man's Myofascial Facial Treatment at the Sofitel Spa

Living a fast-paced London lifestyle means self-care often slips to the bottom of the priority list and with a toddler in tow, it barely makes the list at all. So when I was invited to experience a facial by the renowned Su-Man, I jumped at the chance. What I didn’t expect was to leave feeling genuinely honoured to have been treated by her. This was, without question, a facial like no other. From the moment I stepped into the Sofitel Spa in central London, I was enveloped in calm. The space is serene and welcoming, instantly encouraging you to slow down. As I waited, I found myself admiring Su-Man’s award-winning skincare products elegantly displayed on the shelves, a sign that I was in expert hands. When Su-Man herself greeted me, her warmth, energy and radiant smile immediately put me at ease. Su-Man’s Myofascial Facial is rooted in ancient Chinese healing traditions and focuses on myofascial release, using specialised tools that glide over key pressure points. The treatment begins with a steam cleanse, followed by extractions, before Su-Man expertly applies the Bo Jin technique to sculpt the face and release deep-seated tension. The neck, shoulder and ear massage was nothing short of extraordinary. This isn’t a “drift-off” massage, it’s deep, purposeful and intense, designed to unlock blockages and restore flow. It felt powerful and invigorating, and I was completely absorbed in the experience. Su-Man then used gua sha on my face, enhancing circulation and balance. While her signature nourishing mask worked its magic, Su-Man turned her attention to my lower legs and feet, continuing to release tension throughout the body. When I finally stood up and looked in the mirror, the results were undeniable. My face looked lifted (no surgery here...), brighter and radient. I was genuinely amazed, but the true star of the experience was Su-Man herself. Yes, the facial is an investment, but once you’ve experienced it, you will understand exactly why. For more insight into her techniques, facial massage tips and the benefits behind her methods, check out Su-Man on Instagram . To book a facial click here .
