Sarah Hollebon presents The ‘Woven Experiences’ exhibition

London-based designer and mental health activist, Sarah Hollebon, is holding a solo show in London next month, to raise awareness of social issues through fashion, and to open up conversations on topics such as trauma and sexual violence. The ‘Woven Experiences’ exhibition will take place at GreatArt in Shoreditch from 5th-30th July, and will include pieces from her new collection – Life After Trauma – as well as key garments from previous collections. Sarah’s bespoke, custom made collections are small runs of ready-to-wear garments combining high fashion with storytelling, by highlighting real experiences of people and their challenges.

Her creative process involves conducting interviews with people who have a lived experience of a social issue. These interviews then play a crucial role in the designing of each garment. Interviewees are involved throughout the design process. Their input helps to create an accurate and sensitive design whilst encouraging personal confidence to grow. The interviews will be showcased as part of the exhibition. According to Sarah, weaving personal stories and experiences into each garment is also a powerful way to initiate conversations, create awareness, and further educate for positive change. In fact, these collaborations are an important part of the work as it helps create positive and meaningful social impact.

Throughout the exhibition, there will also be art featured by hand illustrator Connor Lawson, hand embroiderer Beth Cole – who has worked for fashion houses such as Alexander McQueen and Ralph and Russo. Along with textile artist Rebecca Bruton, and London College of Fashion graduate footwear designer Cecília Glória, who is working closely with Sarah to help continue important conversations on social topics. Sarah’s work has also been exhibited in galleries, schools, and workplaces on a national level, including Espacio Gallery, Pop Brixton, and law firm Clyde & Co.
