Review of the Disney Moana afternoon Tea at London Hilton on Park Lane

There are afternoon teas, and then there are afternoon teas that make children gasp before they've even picked up a sandwich. The new Disney Moana Afternoon Tea at Park Corner Brasserie, inside the London Hilton on Park Lane, transforms a timeless London tradition into a colourful island adventure. So naturally, I had to head on over with my own little princess.

Inspired by Moana's voyage across the Pacific, every course nods to the film (live-action release on 10th July). The desserts are the stars of the show, each inspired by the world beyond the reef. The Heart of Te Fiti combines matcha, cream cheese and white chocolate into a delicate bite. While, Taste of the Sea delivers a zingy combination of passion fruit, pineapple and lime that tastes like summer in dessert form. Island Flowers brings together vanilla, strawberry and hibiscus in a floral, fruity creation, while the coconut-coated Drop in the Ocean (an agreed favourite) hides a satisfyingly crunchy chocolate centre with silky mousse and a surprising pop no one was expecting.

Warm apple pies arrive straight from the oven (both agreeing the best apple pies we have ever had!). If the shoe fits were chocolate truffles, served on a velvet pillow, by the very experienced royal butler Nert, that added a sweet flourish and some very entertaining theatrics. The fluffy Wayfinder scones come complete with all the traditional trimmings served in wooden boats for that added touch. The highlight for us was a charming treasure chest packed with sweet treats. Every drawer and secret compartment uncovers another beautifully crafted dessert, making each reveal feel like finding actual treasure. My little royal dining companion was completely enchanted, carefully opening every section with growing excitement before deciding which delight to sample first.

The savouries are just as inventive, you will find, fairest slice of all, once upon a dream and warriors bites are classic sandwich fillings, ham and cheese, cucumber and cream cheese and chicken mayo, presented in fairytale shapes adding some magic to the plate.

Tea lovers are equally well looked after, with everything from a rare Jersey-grown black tea to a rich Taiwanese Oolong infused with cocoa, raspberry and crème caramel. Being very traditional, I stuck with an english breakfast tea (gorgeous with the scones) while the dining princess enjoyed the rooibos lemon delight, it was a thumbs up from us both. To finish off the afternoon came a little royal ceremony, alongside a star decortated hot chocolate, my young dining companion was presented with a certificate declaring her a princess for the day, while I was officially crowned queen. Safe to say, I wasn't allowed to forget who was really in charge for the rest of the afternoon.

The entire experience was a lovely balance of elegance and fun, making it just as enjoyable for grown-ups as for younger Disney devotees. If you're searching for a family treat with plenty of personality this summer, this Park Lane adventure is ready to answer the call of the ocean.
